It’s all part of the National Cycle Routes. Mostly on paved (80%), but you can add gravel options in Telemark. Haukeli is busy during summer at certain times of the day (a lot of holiday cabins in the area). But overall, it’s safe to cycle.

There are many options to put together a 200km route around Jotunheimen.

If you have already purchased your train tickets with bike space, the company, by law, must transport your bikes to your final destination. So you should be good. In the summer, the oversize bag area keeps bike boxes for people flying out. You should be able to give it to them. They are located on the departure floor, just follow the signs.

For mid-August, I wouldn’t carry a tent solely as a backup for accommodation. By that point the main Norwegian holiday season is winding down, and on the Fjord Norway route you pass through enough towns, villages, campsites, and tourist businesses that finding a bed 24–48 hours in advance is usually not a problem.
