Hi all
I’m planning to cycle the Fjord Norway route in August and keep reading about the mosquitoes there.
As someone from Central Europe, I’ve hardly any experience with midges and mosquitoes. When are they most of a nuisance on a long cycle tour, and how can you protect yourself against them?
Do I need a mosquito net over my head, special…

Hi Chris,
yes, those little beasts can be an issue in summer months, depending on weather conditions and location. When it’s very windy and/ or cold, they won’t attack you all the time. They love wet areas (mires, lakes, rivers, forests …). Around mid to end of August, when temperatures are dropping, their season is more or less over.
Usually they…

First of all: Don’t overthink it. As you mentioned, the weather is unpredictable, and it can change very often within 3 weeks. Right now, they predict snow at 700 m in the north for the weekend 🙃
Go for Lofoten! First, the only alternative to go north is the busy E6. Second, Lofoten are beautiful in all kind of weather. I’ve been there twice and…

Wow! First of all thanks so much of the complete and described answer. I really appreciate it and consider all the options you gave me💖 specially taken a hutigurten to come back to the flight point of the end of the trip. I’m called to go to the last village of Norway ( kirkeness), I don’t know why 😅
Tussen takk!

We are on our way at Milkway (Melkevegen) to Vinstra. We left the car in Flåm and biked from there. It is seems impossible to get public transport with bikes the 1-4 days around our arrival in Vinstra. So we asked AI if a return on bike gravel more than 50% over Lom to Flåm is possible. Including ferry is ok. It came up with a route:
Lom.…

Hello,
Does anyone have any updates about this route (Aursjøvegen Loop) and camping possibilities along the itinerary. I saw that it was supposed to change in 2026 but I cant find information anywhere.
Thx a lot
Alexandre

Tick-tock, tick-tock! Regarding the Lofoten Islands: are there any roads other than the main E10? I see some smaller roads on Google Maps, but I haven’t been able to find one that actually traverses the islands. One alternative is to cycle in the early hours of the morning. In any case, since I have time, I’d like to explore Lofoten… Read more

You can’t avoid cycling on E10 for some stretches but of course there are some other and nicer roads. Try the EuroVelo 1: https://www.opencyclemap.org/?zoom=9&lat=68.32078&lon=14.76545&layers=B0000
Matthew has written a detailed guide here: https://cyclenorway.com/en/routes/lofoten-andoya-senja/1

We are cycling through the fjords and plan to go to Alesund on 20th. I am having a hard time determining the ferry timetables from leknes to standal. Which ferry to take? To trandor or saebo? I dont see times for any but leknes to saebo. Any help? Thanks

Hello fellow riders! Looking for any input/suggestions on a few routes. Starting and returning from Oslo 6/29 – 7/5. At the moment considering National Gravel Route 6: Klassikerne (Rallarvegen and Mjølkevegen) or National Gravel Route 7: Jotunheimen. I know both require open roads and decent weather. Not new to bikepacking or long days in…

Hi Ian,
There are quite a few questions wrapped up in your post, and the right answer really depends on your preferences and experience. I’d be happy to help you plan the trip, compare the route options, and discuss accommodation and logistics, but that’s something best covered in a consultation rather than a…
