I’ve used Komoot quite a bit in the past. It usually is quite good, but as you mention it can have some quirks. My go-to at the moment is Strava, mostly for the heatmaps!

In early June 25, I flew from Newcastle, England to Bergen from where I took the overnight Hurtigruten ferry to Alesund. My plan was to spend three weeks bikepacking south via various tarmac and gravel routes to Oslo and Gothenburg before jumping on a ferry to Denmark and riding to Copenhagen.
It didn’t go as planned!
I am 62 years old and…

What a pity! Besides the saddle sores, it looks like you had a great time. Norway at its best 😊

Sorry you could not complete your adventure.
Like you we rode off the main tourist route to discover Norway. We were not disappointed.
Hope you have a quick recovery at riding again soon.

I’ve been using Komoot for about 3 years and most recently on a trip along the Baltic. I like some of its features but get frustrated with some of its quirks (like designing a route and having to place multiple “destination” points to prevent the software from re-routing me in a direction I did not want). I’m exploring other options,…

A route question for the community. I’m cycling from Finse to Vinstra. Which route should I choose if I want to prioritize gravel and scenery?

Andalsnes to Oslo bus and train logistics
Even in a bicycle country like the Netherlands you pay a fee for bringing a bike along and can’t bring them in rush hour… yet it’s perfectly fine to bring three large suitcases (free of charge) and block the aisle :’)…

Andalsnes to Oslo bus and train logistics
Thanks Ken, It’s remarkable that they prioritise people with large suitcases over cyclists. There should be a designated train compartment for bikes, especially since Trollstigen, Norway’s most famous cycling road, is next door. You would have thought they might have considered this.

Tromso to Kautokeino/Karsjok/Alta
Mid August can be a great time to travel up there, when the falls starts and the leaves change colour and the first northern lights start dancing on the dark sky 😊
Some areas in the far north might seem very remote but infrastructure is quite good (buses, grocery stores …)
I hope you’ll enjoy your trip 🙂

Andalsnes to Oslo bus and train logistics
Recent personal experience with a bike on the Åndalsnes- Dombås route: You’re correct that it’s not possible to book a bike on this leg (make any other connecting reservations on a separate ticket so as to be able to book the bike on those trains). When I was there 28 June, there were 4 cyclists total waiting for the train. Train conductor…
