Well done!! You survived! And thanks for the update on the road! It will probably be rideable before the end of June.

You could try Tromsø outdoors (rental place) and ask if they are interested or know anyone who is. With the amount of tourists in Tromsø I’m sure some business would want them.

Alesund to Kristiansund is also reasonably flat and is within your kilometre requirements
Tromsø – Senja – Another great option
Stavanger – Bergen – Flat but a bit boring, and with many ferries
Oslo – Moss – Larvik – Flat and pleasant safe roads
Oslo – Horten – Strømstad – Sandefjord – Flat and good route into Sweden before returning by boat.

AdministratorJune 3, 2025 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Tips for locations around Geiranger -> Lom -> Otta?Yes, I believe that is your best option. If you need to get back to Oslo, you’ll need to head to Lom, then Otta. The other option is to continue to Flåm, which is too far away. I can’t think of any other options with the restricted time frame you have. Sognefjellethytta to Otta is a comfortable journey, allowing you to take the last train home to Oslo.

Options I can think of:
1) Join Warmshowers and contact people in Oslo and see if any have space for two bikes
2) Stick two bikes in the Bikely Box in Oslo. Not sure of the cost for a long period of time: https://www.bikely.no/product/pod
3 Use the bike hotel at the central station: https://www.oslo.kommune.no/gate-transport-og-parkering/sykkel/sykkelhotell/
4) Contact bike shops in Oslo and see if any will hold your bikes for a small fee (doubtful but worth an email).

There is no right or wrong direction both ways are amazing, but from Lom is considerably easier. Just cycle it early in the morning or late in the evening if you want limited traffic. It’s safe to cycle even with traffic.

It’s something I can’t do if I want to hit a ride hard and enjoy it. I already have a large drone which takes a beating in the framebag. I think a hip bag (not nice to wear when cycling) or a small rucksack are you’re best options for expensive large cameras. Putting it in the handlebar bag will require good packing down every time to prevent damage.

A million people ask the same question every year. Sourcing a bike box requires logistical planning, and I explain everything in detail with every option possible on my site. But the simple answer is to visit the sports shops in Oslo and ask. You will need to contact Oslo Airport directly to find out what they have. It’s a high-risk game, hoping the airport will have a box on the day of travel.
