Hirtshals → Bergen
The main ferry operator on this long north-Atlantic crossing is Fjord Line:
-
It runs daily or near-daily sailings from Hirtshals (Denmark) to Bergen (Norway) in the summer.
-
Crossing time: ~16–18 hours depending on schedule/season.
-
You can take your camper van and book a cabin or deck seat.
-
You might find cheaper deals booking well in advance; ferries run in the evening and arrive next day.
Practical point: Ferries at this distance are slow compared to flying, but you’re saving mileage/time and keeping your camper ready for touring.
Kristiansand → Hirtshals
For heading home, the Kristiansand–Hirtshals ferry is much shorter and much easier logistics:
-
Fjord Line and Color Line both operate this route.
-
Duration: around 2½–3½ hours.
-
Frequent sailings through summer make it flexible for planning your departure date/time.
-
Camper vans are welcome; book spots well ahead of August.

Hotels are always your best option with large luggage facilities. If you’re in Oslo, Fara cycling has a lot of storage space and might take it off you for a set price. Lillehammer: Google sports shops in Lillehammer. Ring or email them. It should be reasonably easy to pick one up.

AdministratorSeptember 2, 2025 at 9:50 am in reply to: Points of interest on Ride with GPSWhen you download a GPX file, it only contains the route line. The POIs are visible when viewing the route on Ride with GPS or by pinning the route to your own account, but they remain the property of Cycle Norway. Pinning simply “borrows” the route — it does not transfer ownership.
The reason is simple: POIs take a huge amount of time and research to create. If they were downloadable, individuals, companies, or organizations could take my work and use it on their own websites, social media, or even for commercial purposes. That would make it impossible for me to run Cycle Norway as a business.
The POIs are part of the value of your membership, and keeping them tied to the platform is how I protect the work that goes into them.
Best regards,

AdministratorAugust 28, 2025 at 7:53 pm in reply to: Hotel Trondheim with bicycle storage/parkingThere’s an app called Bikely with bike lockers all over Trondheim. The first four hours are free, then it’s 10 kr per hour. I’ve used them plenty of times. That said, my advice would be to book a hotel and keep your bikes in the room. I’ve never had an issue doing this. If reception says no, insist they provide a safe and secure alternative. Don’t accept the first “no” — once they see you’re serious, they usually back down and let you take the bikes upstairs. https://www.safebikely.com/

Most tourist sites only give you the basics about Rallarvegen. The questions you’re asking come up every year. That’s why the Full Story pages cover every route in detail, showing you all the options, how different routes connect to Rallarvegen, and the essential information you need before setting off. The premium version gives you every bit of knowledge i have – worth it if you want to maximize your cycling experience.

These will have what you’re after, Regular supermarkets for the rest. The large shopping mall in Voss is good for finding everything in one place.

Honongsvåg – Tromsø (24 hours boat). Tromsø – Bodø by Bus (change in Narvik). Bodø – Oslo by Train (18 hours). You’re probably talking over 350 euros minimum. About 3 days of travel. Fly from Alta or Tromsø is alot easier. Pick up card board box at intersport or XXL.

Yes, they are high-quality tents! Looks like a good deal to me! The weight is amazing.
