What are your thoughts on the Flam–Kaupanger (or vice versa) ferry?

Is there actually a direct ferry, or do one have to take a connecting boot service via Gudvanger, with the risk of not getting a seat/place for the bike on one of the two journeys?

I’ll be travelling along this section of the Fjord Norway Route in the second half of August / early September,
