Dombås – Åndalsnes – Ålesund and Ålesund – Geiranger – Dombås?
Hi!
Im planning a trip this weekend, taking the train from Oslo to Otta or Dombås and doing the second half of the Rörås-Ålesund route (finishing in Ålesund). Has any one done this ride? I have a few questions if you have time to answer. For your info I’ll have a gravel bike (32mm) and will be camping, I could also rebook my train tickets but I’ll have to start from Oslo and end in Ålesund 🚲- How much of the road was on car road, and is the traffic OK?
– Tunnel: I saw on the route page that it is recommended taking a taxi or bus through a tunnel after Åndalsnes, do you know if they generally allow taking a bike with you? Also do you know what the bus stops before/after the tunnel are called? When I map this route with Garmin it recommends me to go along the coast line instead of through the tunnel, is there a reason for you not doing this? And if I ask google maps for a suggestion it gives a third option which is a route that includes biking to Molde and taking a ferry from there.
– I’m also planning on riding my bike back to Dombås/Otta, and google maps suggests a route Ålesund-Geiranger-Dombås, has anyone taken this path?

E136 is the main road and can be busy at certain times of the day. Part of the road has a cycle lane. In general, you are cycling on a few main roads with traffic (Any road that has E by it is a main road). Take a bus through that long tunnel from Åndalsnes town centre and ask the driver to drop you off at the first stop after the tunnel. Bikes are allowed if space (usually will be). The coast road is blocked by a large landslide. Ålesund-Geiranger-Dombås is a nice route if done correctly. Be careful of Google Maps, they’re not the best for bike routes. Thanks for your reply. Good to know about the tunnel and the E-roads.
Unfortunately my bus to Oslo was delayed and I will miss my train from Oslo-Dovre. Cant really find any other good options apart from the RE10 train that leaves first tomorrow evening. Wanted to ask you if you have any other recommendations on travel options? My mail goal is to get to Ålesund in way or another.
