Hi there,
Myself and some friends are travelling from Ireland to cycle Oslo to Bergen on 8th to 15th May.
Do you think there’s *any* chance of the Rallarvegen being passable?
If not, do you know if the Fv50 from Hagafoss to Flam is a possible alternative. I am reading that the tunnels are all accessible by bike on this route, but googlemaps does not offer it as a bike route, which worries me. thanks!!

Cycling from Oslo to Bergen early in the season is not ideal. It will be freezing going over the high mountain parts. Not sure what your plan is when you reach Aurland. The E16 is not possible after Flåm. Boats you can take but either way you want to be keeping off the E16. Taking the train from Haugastøl or Geilo until you reach passable roads is a good option. https://cyclenorway.com/routes/oslo-bergen/

” E16 is not possible after Flåm”
I assume that is because of the tunnels on the way to Gundvagen but what about Flamsdalvegen heading south towards Rallarvegen?
I also noticed that FV243 connecting Laerdal and Aurdal is currently closed. Snow?
And is E16’s adjacent bikepath safe enough to ride?

@mpage Flamsdalvegen is part of Rallarvegen – it’s a cycling road.
I also noticed that FV243 connecting Laerdal and Aurdal is currently closed. Snow? It opens in early June each year.
And is E16’s adjacent bikepath safe enough to ride? Yes.

Thanks Matthew, that’s very helpful.
We’re preparing for freezing temps on the high parts, we’ve some experience rolling about in the cold here in Irish winters. So hoping that prepares us. We will keep a close eye on the weather also of course.
We’re getting the ferry from Flam to Gudvangen and then picking up the road again there.
Thank you!
