My plan is to take the ferry boat from Lauvvik to Lysebotn tomorrow – but which one?
The early departures take place in darkness (sunrise at 7 am) which means no nice views. Well, it will be rainy anyway 🤔
On the other hand, the later departures might be to late because I want to ride the switchback part of Lysevegen the same day.

Day 0: A long train journey to Northern Denmark, a short and fast ferry ride to Kristiansand. Now, I was completely in vacation mode, enjoying the first kilometers on gravel 😊
Found a really nice spot at a lake, took a refreshing swim, enjoyed the lovely late summer evening and didn’t miss the mosquitoes 😁 -
Day 1: I should have paid some attention during planning, when Komoot showed a 5 digit elevation gain on a 700 km trip 🤦♀️
Weather was great, and the scenery fantastic, but my legs send me a reminder about missed training rides this summer. So many ups and downs along the coastline 🥵

Mid August can be a great time to travel up there, when the falls starts and the leaves change colour and the first northern lights start dancing on the dark sky 😊
Some areas in the far north might seem very remote but infrastructure is quite good (buses, grocery stores …)

The area along the Russian border is full of monuments and memorials reminding on difficult times. E.g. in 1940, tens of thousands of people built a 1200 km long defense wall against a possible Soviet invasion, and many of the massive rocks are still in place.
