Has anyone travelled the back roads from Tromso down to Harstad (southside of Kvaloya – Finnsness – Sorreisa – Sjovegan – Andorja – Rolla – Sorrollnes – Harstad) and then continuing south via E10 and 815??
1. How is the route (the road quality and signage)
2. Are there sufficient food/water stops to support wild camping without cooking
3. How is the traffic
Any suggestions.??
I am looking at the route is a quieter/caravan-free/unspoiled alternative to the EV-1.
July-August solo travel

The route from Tromsø to Harstad via the south side of Kvaløya, Finnsnes, Sørreisa, Sjovegan, Andørja, Rolla, and Sørrollnes is a great choice for a quieter, caravan-free alternative to the EV-1. Road quality is mostly paved and in good condition with clear signage, though some stretches may include short gravel or narrow segments. Food and water stops are sufficient in towns like Finnsnes, Sørreisa, and Harstad, but sparse between, so plan ahead if wild camping without cooking. Traffic is light on most of the route – mainly locals. The area is well-suited to solo travel in July–August with plenty of wild camping spots, scenic ferry links, and minimal tourist congestion. Just be prepared for changing weather and carry extra supplies in remote areas. The E10, however, is not nice in that area, and I would join the EV1 and follow that to Lofoten via Melbu.
