Hei, I’ll soon be in Oppdal with my gravel bike and plan to extend the trip into Tour de Dovre. I’m looking for a way to connect Oppdal to Hjerkinn/Folldal without riding the E6. One option is Knutshø via National Cycle Route 1, but the detour is fairly long, and I understand camping may not be allowed there. As an alternative, I’m considering: Driva – Vinstradalsvegen – Drotningdalsvegen – Bekkelægervegen – Flåmsætrin – Sætervegen – Storeide.
Two things I’m unsure about: Whether the stretch leaving Drotningdalsvegen and leading up to Bekkelægervegen is actually rideable on a gravel bike, and whether the same camping restriction applies along this route (though there seem to be hytte options as a backup so that’s less critical). Anyone knows a bit more about this area? Or is that a terrible idea and I should just take the train?4 Comments-
Some parts of that route, if I’m not mistaken, will be hiking. But camping will not be a problem as long as you are not in the nature reserves.

National Cycle Route 1 section is awesome to ride, and this is a good campsite to stay at as you come off the mountain: https://grimsbu.no

@Matthew Norway Thanks a lot! I have also read a lot of conflicted information regarding whether wild camping in Grimsdalen is okay or if it HAS to be on the designated campsites shared with motorhomes. Some information I suppose is outdated with the recent plan of actions in this area. Do you know the current status there?

@astazenef No one knows what’s going on – feedback from the national park is limited with the new reindeer rules. I would only camp in the designated camping spot, which is next to Grimsdalen DNT Hytta. As I can not confirm what is currently acceptable. But as long as you follow the wildcamping general rules I don’t think you will have too many problems.
