News Feed Forums Does anyone know? Train from Oslo to Flam

Hey all, I’m planning a big gravel bikepacking starting in Flam, which means taking the train to Flam. The Rallarvegen route description says you don’t need to book a bicycle spot in advance for the Myrdal – Flam section, but every time I look for the Oslo – Flam trip on entur.no or vy.no with a bike add-on, it says that there are no spaces for bikes left in the Myrdal – Flam section and so doesn’t let me purchase a ticket.

When I try to look for a separate Myrdal – Flam ticket with a bike add-on, the websites say there are no available trains. Has anyone done this route recently or is planning to do it this summer that has figured out how to book it properly?

I’m attaching a few screenshots for reference. My trip will be in August, so still have time to figure out given the tickets are only released 60-days in advance, but would like to figure this out soon.

    Thanks!

There is a chatbox down at the bottom of the http://www.vy.no page where you can ask someone (during office hours) about your issue, and they will advise you.

This issue is likely becuase you have a connection and the system can’t through book / reserve a bike or pulk. Similarly, if one leg requires a bike reservation (like Oslo S to Bergen). But another doesn’t (Oslo S to Oslo Airport) you’ll see the same ‘error’.

Top tip: check each leg to see if its really is becuase you can’t take a bike, of if it’s this reason. If you do need to reserve, then you might need to book each leg indiviually.

Thanks @rikwilliams – it wasn’t very clear cause sometimes it showed bike availability on different hours, so we decided to take the train to Myrdal and then just ride down to Flam! It’ll be fun to do that section down before having to climb up the next day 😅
