Me and my brother are planning a four day trip this summer, July 30th to August 2nd. me and my brother are planning a four day trip this summer, from July 30th to August 2nd. First leg; train to Åndalsnes and Trollstigen – Valldal the first day, sleepover at a camping site.

Second day; ferry to Eidsdal, ride to Geiranger and Djupvasshytta and spend the night there.

Day 3; Dalsnibba and back down, and this is where I need some input. Due to time restrictions, we need to get back to Oslo by the next evening (Sunday 3rd), preferably by train from Otta or other suitable station along the Trondheim Oslo line.

Sognefjellsveien might seem like an obvious choice, but I fear it will be too big of a stretch after the two previous days of climbing.

But how about riding from Djupvass to Lom, hop on the bus to Sognefjellshytta and spend the last night there? Then roll down to Otta early Sunday and catch the train from there?

Any other obvious routes or destinations to avoid turning the Bismo-Otta into a pure transport leg?

Yes, I believe that is your best option. If you need to get back to Oslo, you’ll need to head to Lom, then Otta. The other option is to continue to Flåm, which is too far away. I can’t think of any other options with the restricted time frame you have. Sognefjellethytta to Otta is a comfortable journey, allowing you to take the last train home to Oslo.

You can also go back down to Geiranger. Take the boat to Hellesylt and ride gamle strynefjellsvei back to Grotli and the ride Grotli – Lom – Otta as the last leg
