Road side farm shop
Posted by Martin Clarke on March 25, 2025 at 10:07 amHi all,
Has anyone ever seen road side farm shops / stalls in Norway which sell eggs, fruit, honey or veg with honesty payment box? Do supermarkets sell eggs individually?
Thanks in advance Martin

Yes, there are loads of these in rural Norway. Are you looking for some specific one? I think I saw at least one on the Mjølkevegen route last year, but I know from experience that those are very typical. The more rural, the more likely you’ll stumble across them.

One thing to consider though: cash will most likely not be found in these. They’ll be requesting payment from Vipps (which is a Norwegian version of Venmo / Cash app), so tourists may be facing difficulty. Oh, and btw: I bought a plant from a shop in Kampen (close to downtown Oslo) last summer, in the middle of the night

Hi Gjermund, Thank you for your reply great to know they exist will look out for them on route, we will always carry some cash to buy some local food.

There are many around the popular fjords like Hardanger and Sognefjord. Usually July, August, & September (harvest time) are when the fresh fruit is sold (cherries, raspberries, strawberries, pears, apples, and pineapples). That last one was a lie. But as Gjermund rightly mentions bring cash unless you have access to Vipps Payment.

Thanks Matthew looking forward to finding some goodies…

Thank you 😊 We hope to be able to buy from local farm shops. But will always use supermarkets aswell.

Beware that a lot of these unmanned farm stands will expect you to pay with the Vipps app. I guess exact change might be accepted.
