News Feed Forums Does anyone know? Ferries

    Hello everyone,

We are currently planning our three-week trip to Norway in August 2026.

Our idea is to travel to Norway in a camper van and then do a few two- to four-day gravel / road tours around Bergen to Kristiansand. We will leave our camper van behind each time and return to it after the tour.

    I have two questions:

What do you recommend for ferries from Hirtshals to Bergen and from Kristiansand to Hirtshals?

Which tours are a must in the southern region? We have already decided on one of these two tours: National Cycle Route 4 Loop or Rallarvegen Loop

    Many thanks and best regards

    Mischa

    Hirtshals → Bergen

The main ferry operator on this long north-Atlantic crossing is Fjord Line:

    • It runs daily or near-daily sailings from Hirtshals (Denmark) to Bergen (Norway) in the summer.

    • Crossing time: ~16–18 hours depending on schedule/season.

    • You can take your camper van and book a cabin or deck seat.

    • You might find cheaper deals booking well in advance; ferries run in the evening and arrive next day.

Practical point: Ferries at this distance are slow compared to flying, but you’re saving mileage/time and keeping your camper ready for touring.

    Kristiansand → Hirtshals

For heading home, the Kristiansand–Hirtshals ferry is much shorter and much easier logistics:
