Camping, travel insurance & emergencies
Hello Cycle Norway Forum,
I’m planning a multi-month trip through Norway starting from Germany. I was doing my research and came across this forum.
To introduce myself, I have been hiking, camping & trekking in the Himalayas since I was a kid and bike-touring is a new hobby of mine that I have been doing in Scandinavia for last couple of years.
During my upcoming trip, I’ll mostly follow the coastline until I reach Norkapp, at least that’s the plan. But there are a few things that I was wondering if you could help me with,
Are there camping etiquette that aren’t written about? I have read that in Norway you can camp anywhere as long as it’s 150meters from a house / farm. But 150meters isn’t that far, and I wonder if I should always make sure there are no-one around when camping in the wild, I want to make sure I am respectful to people & nature of course. Also how do I identify private grounds? I wouldn’t want to set up camp in private grounds, what would be the next best way to identity private grounds, apart from fences.
What kind of travel insurance should I get for a trip such as this? I would prefer to be covered for emergencies. Are there are any Norwegian insurance providers who would insure me?
And lastly, what kind of emergency system / services I should be aware of. If worse comes to worst, I was wondering if I need to carry SOS beacon, or a cellphone is enough? What are the emergency phone numbers I could call?
Thanks!
P.S. I realise these are just a bunch of different questions, I am happy to split them up if needed.
