Hello everyone,
after my brother and I did a bikepacking tour from Oslo to Stavanger in 2024, we’re planning to ride from Trondheim to Bergen this year. The planned route is here: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2077109587?share_token=aPnqE6qaFhJw8m6vQuTGsYdAmu0RkE3d15YeS38DB14lT661Cu&ref=wtd
Our aim is to include sights such as Trollstigen and to ride parts of the Mjolkevegen and Rallarvegen. Travel dates would be June 25 – July 11.
Has anyone got experience with this route and can give us tips or suggestions to improve the tour?
Thanks in advance.

This will be a fantastic adventure! So many highlights on this route 😊
Some thoughts:
-Why start in Hell? Sure, nobody wants to stay in Hell, but the way to Trondheim is along busy roads. I assume you want to pay Trondheim a visit, otherwise I would recommend taking Selbuvegen in Hommelvik and riding South of Jonsvatnet through forests and along lakes.
-Trondheim – Lundamo has a separate bike lane but the busy E6 is never far away, and the valley is not that … spectaculous. Alternative: Take national cycle route 1 west along the coast line to Orkanger, then ride South on Løkkenveien. But you would miss the nice gravel section Hovin to Hol if you skip “E6 valley”.
-In Øvre Årdal you should do the “Tusenmeteren”. It’s definitely worth the hard climb! https://youtu.be/pqHyZyvI0-I?si=OmtmzI5Z0B1wXRz7

Thank you very much for your tips!
Just for your information: we’re coming from Germany and will be flying to Trondheim/Stjørdal, with our return flight from Bergen. We were a bit unsure about the starting section of the route, but we’ll probably go via Selbuvegen now and most likely take National Cycle Route 1, then rejoin the original route via Løkkenveien. We will definitely include the Tusenmeteren as well and hope that it will be free of snow at the beginning of July.
On our last tour we were lucky and didn’t have a single drop of rain during the seven days from Oslo to Stavanger – we hope we’ll be just as fortunate this year 🙂
Once again, thank you very much for your excellent tips – we can hardly wait to get started.
Best regards from bavaria,
