• Hi, so I’m new to Bikepacking trips and solo overnight adventures. When I quickly look at what I deem necessary for an overnight trip there is cooking equpment, tent/hammock and sleeping bag. Maybe even a sleeping mat. Just by the look of bikepacking equipment it does not look to be able to carry all this, so I’m starting to imagine more of a bike touring setup to bring all necessary equipment. What do you guys do/bring for sleeping arrangements ? Any particular recommendations for very compressable sleeping bags and cooking equipment? I use a Jetboil solution today, but it seem to take half my front bag, or almost half my saddle bag. Just looking for some gear tips to pack light and easy, get a decent nights sleep and cook 1-2 meals on the way

      • I would look at a simple BRS stove, corresponding fuel cannister and a generic (titanium) cooking pot that is just big enough to house the stove, cannister and maybe a lighter. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jBUu1cqqIbg

        • Also… For my very first bikepacking trip, I took a small backpack with me. Sure it’s not what the pro’s do, but at least you’re more confident that you bring everything you need. Just keep track of what you actually used and leave the other things behind (unless they’re emergency things of course).

For a sleeping bag. I think ‘down’ bags are most compressible, but they can get expensive really quickly.

It may also make a small difference to look at everything you’re bringing and see if it helps to ditch bags the products come in. Tent bag, sleeping bag bag and such.

And youtube videos about ‘how to pack bikepacking bags’.

          • Hi. I use a Cumulus X-Lite 300 sleeping bag. It‘s not cheap, but really keeps warm, is lightweight and has a small pack size.

And I wouldn’t want to go without an inflatable sleeping mat with a good R-value. The ground can be very cold, and if you don’t sleep well, the trip won’t be fun. Inflatable mats often have a small pack size and you can choose a lightweight, too.

            • Thanks @Sunnybike for leading me to Cumulus. It looks very promising. Got a really good deal on a down bag today, at around 1000g. I think it’ll do for now, but a custom cumulus x-lite is on the list if the Heliport Pro Down 0 degrees does not pack well, then I’ll return it and get the cumulus.
