Hello there, been here as a free member for a year now. Since my lifetime trip from Stuttgart to Cape North is getting closer, I am getting into it a little deeper. So first I signed up and now… I hope to maybe get some contacts via this community.
Attached you’ll find my roadmap. Of course there will be changes here and there. But maybe one can meet for a night’s stay or ride a few miles together next summer.
I’ve been to cape north in 1981 in a VW camper. Time to come back… by bike.

Looks like a really well-planned adventure trip 😊
I see that you noticed yourself that an extra day for hiking on Lofoten might be a good idea. More of that!
My trips usually are two to three weeks long, and I don’t plan any rest days either. Sometimes I regret this but most of the time I just enjoy a long break while visiting a museum, talking to fellow bikepackers on the road or doing a small hike.
This extra time off the bike often makes me riding until late at night to cover some distance, but in my experience it’s these unplanned adventures along the road that can add so much joy to a trip; especially on long days on boring main roads.Regarding the circumpolar part of your trip: The weather is quite unpredictable that far north, and it might slow you down a lot or even stop you from crossing some mountain plateaus on E6 between Tromsø and Nordkapp. Tree line is very low up there, so you won’t find any shelter on a stormy day.
On the other hand, the midnight sun allows you to ride at any time of day. Try a ride in its magical light, on a car-free E6 😎Unfortunately, the link to your Komoot collection is broken. Just in case you want some more detailled ideas on your route 😉

@michel Thanks for the hint about komoot – I’ll check that. Usually, I only have a week for myself… this time, it is different. All in all, I have seven buffer days – so maybe I’ll end up in Kirkenes… and take the boat back to Tromsø. We’ll see 🙂

Maybe I will meet you on the road. I’m planning Paris to North Cape but leaving end of April (doing about half the number of kms you plan on per day!!!!)

@jenny it’s not about how ,much you ride per day. If you are short on time it is nice when you are capable of riding 200+ km per day. But the trip doesn’t get any better because of that. It gets a different perspective, Enjoy the ride. Norway is gorgeous.

I may see you all as well. I just arranged flight to Oslo from USA June 10. Now I’m doodling on maps looking at the country. Last summer i was on long ride with my son 160km a day on gravel roads. This trip. 40-65km a day with wife. So a fun change. Almost a month to play. Question I have for everyone. If I had plans that are fluid and I go where the weather the best at the time, how hard is it to find accommodations/ferry/train if not reserved? For example, if the weather is looking very good in the north go there to avoid bad weather to the south and vice versa. We would try to stay inside every few days possibly.
Very nice excel sheet Bob!

@jryter thanks. Check Out the links. The vegvesen page will provide all ferry schedules. It is awesome.
