Rallarvegen North to South in September?
Posted by Mike Page on March 25, 2025 at 3:33 pmHow would that route/time work out in terms of crowd?

Do you mean west to east? Most people go the other way, so you will not have to pass lots of people, and you will arrive at stops at different times (so the stops others will arrive at in the morning you will be at in the mid day for instance).
Depending on how late in September you might encounter snow.

I am probably a little directionally challenged. The route that I want to take ends south of where it starts on Rallarvegen but also east of where it starts. My route will be more like ESE.
“Will going against the main traffic flow be like dodging raindrops?”, is my main concern.

I guess north to south also works, it’s just that it mainly follows the rail road which goes across the country, so feels weird to hear it described in another frame of reference, heh.
I biked it the wrong way, same direction you’re thinking of, last fall and it was fine. People coming towards you will see you and hopefully line up and then you’re past them. I felt overtaking was more hassle, have to pling or yell out etc.

If I can ask: What route did you take to get to Rallarvargen?
What I am looking at right now is Northern side of Sognefjord -> Lærdalsøyri -> Aurland -> Flam -> Rallarvegen
But (as always) that is subject to change
